Desde la creación de la Environmental Chamber of Plasticsmany have been the achievements of this young association. But today, we will not talk about the great efforts and achievements built so far, but about our future goals. One of them comes from one of our most important achievements. The proposal, implementation, creation and development, together with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, of the Environmental Roundtable for the Sustainability of Single-Use Plastics, which has become the stage for communication between academia, government, the private sector and non-governmental organizations dedicated to the environment, among others.
This unique space, where the national plan for the sustainable management of single-use plastics, among other topics, is discussed, where we have permanently made contributions, containing the extreme and overflowing position of some members of the table.., Well, anticipating what anyone else in Colombia has said on this issue, the Environmental Chamber of Plastics and the Chamber of Expanded Polystyrene propose to the country, the industry and the Colombian society, the creation of the NATIONAL COUNCIL OF PLASTICS AND RELATED INDUSTRIES, as a consultative and advisory body to the National Government, which will serve as a mechanism for governmental, trade union and citizen participation and consultation, for the planning and development of the policy of the macro sector of the plastics industry and related industries.
This National Council shall be attached to the Presidency of the Republic and its main functions shall be to advise the National Government in the investigation, analysis, preparation, planning, formulation, adoption, application and development of the policy of the macro sector of the plastics and related industries, seeking in the first instance the reactivation of the sector and the generation of new jobs to help alleviate the national crisis and the destruction of employment generated by COVID-19.
Another of its main functions will be to consider the state of international trade in the plastics industry and suggest measures to increase Colombia's participation in it.
Another of its functions will be to strengthen the necessary degree of coordination among all state institutions in order to unify efforts for the development and growth of the plastics and related industries. Ecopetrol cannot continue to be a guest of stone in the national discussion on the future of single-use plastics in Colombia, among many other issues of relevance to the sector and that could make the difference between the high or low competitiveness of companies in this important sector of the national economy.
